Howland students qualify for nationals

Howland — After two grueling days of competition, two Howland High School students have earned themselves a trip to nationals in speech and debate.

Kate Li and Lindsey Shrodek placed first in public forum debate, which has qualified them for the state tournament and the national competition.

Other Howland students who did well at the regional speech event include Ethan Deemer finishing third, qualifying for state in informational speaking. Lauren Myers qualified for state in Lincoln-Douglas debate after finishing fifth. Grace Strodtbeck finished seventh and earned herself a trip to state in original oratory.

The state competition is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at Jackson High School in Massillon. Nationals will take place in June in Dallas, Texas.
