Queen contest to kick off annual street fair

CORTLAND –The 2018 Miss Cortland queen contest will kick off the annual street fair 6 p.m. today, with three local teenagers competing for the title.

The event will also include a Little Miss Cortland contest.

Julie Vugrinovich, queen contest chairwoman and coordinator, said the 65th Miss Cortland will be crowned around 9 p.m. by reigning Miss Cortland Lisa Marsco.

Contestants are:

l Hunter Ainsley, 17, daughter of Jeff and Gabbrielle Ainsley, will be a senior at Lakeview High School and will attend the Trumbull County Career and Technical Center for her second year in the cosmetology program. Her sponsor is Ainsley Heating and Cooling.

l Caitlyn Dales, 16, daughter of Patrick and Pamela Dales, will be a junior at Lakeview High School and is also a student at Youngstown State University through the College Credit Plus program. Her sponsor is Cortland Lions Club.

l Breann Streets, 17, daughter of Steve and Brenda Streets, will be a senior at Lakeview High School. She plans to major in business at YSU.

Candidates are judged by the All American Judges Association and will take part in interviews, casual wear and formal wear, and be questioned on current events.

Cash scholarship awards of $500 will be awarded to the queen and $250 scholarship will be presented to the first runner-up.

Vugrinovich, who has served as pageant coach and queen contest coordinator for 18 years, was instrumental in organizing the Little Miss Cortland Contest. Marsco organized the Little Miss Cortland this year and will host 11 girls ages of 6 and 10.

Marsco attends YSU majoring in accounting.

The street fair theme is “Sports on Parade.”
