Girard RoboCats eliminated in semifinal at Worlds
GIRARD — FIRST Robotics Active Team #379, The RoboCats of Girard High School, second-place qualifiers in the regionals in Cleveland, were eliminated in semifinal competition at the World Robotics competition in Detroit last week.
With a 4-6 record in qualification matches, head coach Judy Barber said the team did not advance to the finals.
Competing among 600 teams, 66 of which were in its division, Barber said the RoboCats performed “excellently.”
“It is an honor even to be in the divisional playoff,” Barber said.
The team is looking forward to carrying its No. 2 seed position into a competition in Westerville on May 19, Barber said. There they will compete with 32 teams from West Virginia, Ohio and western Pennsylvania, she said.
A mini-competition is also scheduled for June 30 in Austintown with Girard competing against Champion, Warren Harding and Austintown Fitch high schools.
