Catholic Charities plans fundraiser
WARREN — Catholic Charities Regional Agency in Warren is planning a ”Taste of Trumbull” fundraiser 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at John F. Kennedy HIgh School Upper Campus, 2550 Central Parkway SE. with all proceeds to benefit emergency housing assistance.
Terry Supancic, president of the board for the regional agency, said there will be food samplings from Trumbull County restaurants, amateur cooks, churches and speciality shops as well as raffle and prizes.
Supanic said there also will be a drawing at the event for a two-year lease on a Chevy Cruze donated by Diane Sauer Chevrolet. Raffle tickets are $20 each with limit of 500 to be sold.
Valerie Thomas, program manager at the Trumbull office, said clients come to the center for emergency outreach because they are facing an eviction or they are homeless.
”We try to help prevent the eviction. We do not want the homeless count going up anymore than it is,” Thomas said.
Supancic said the goal is to help people get back on their feet and be stable.
In addition, financial education programs and parenting programs are held which are made possible with available funds.
Supancic said the food tasting event will have local restaurants and people participating similar to the Men Who Cook and Taste of the Valley events.
She said this is the first time they have held the fundraiser.
”We want to help Trumbull County and get more people involved here. This fundraiser will help Trumbull County,” she said indicating the regional Catholic Charities covers Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
Thomas said half of the 25 to 35 calls received per day at the Trumbull site are people facing homelessness.
Tickets are $15 per person. For information, call 330-744-3320 or visit ccregional.org.
