Bridge to be dedicated to remember Niles veteran

Tribune Chronicle

NILES — A Niles Vietnam War veteran will be honored as a bridge off South Main Street near McKees Lane will be dedicated 1 p.m. Sunday as the Sgt. Bruce R. Jones Vietnam Veteran Bridge.

Robert Marino Sr., who has coordinated efforts to get bridges in Trumbull County named for area veterans, working with state representatives Sean O’Brien, D-Bazetta, and Glenn Holmes, D-McDonald, said Jones is the 16th Vietnam War veteran and the first Ohioan killed in Vietnam to have their name placed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

“Niles and Trumbull County should be proud of the way we honor our veterans,” Marino said.

Doug Jones, nephew of Bruce Jones, said his family is honored to have the bridge dedicated to his uncle. The event is open to the public.
