School collects holiday donations
MAPLEWOOD GAME COLLECTING ITEMS: Maplewood Schools will collect toy and wrapping paper donations as part of the Christmas charity volleyball match against Bristol Schools with junior varsity 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. today at the Maplewood High School gymnasium. There will also be a 50-50 raffle and bake sale. All proceeds will benefit Santa’s Hideway Hollow.
MCKINLEY BANQUET: The 102nd annual McKinley Banquet 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the McKinley Memorial auditorium in Niles hosted by the Mahoning Valley McKinley Club. Guest speaker Paul Kengor, a professor at Grove City College, author and television and radio commentator, will speak on ”Reagan, Republicans and Conservatives in 2017.” For tickets and information, call 330-518-3463 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. RIDE4LIFE: LaBrae School will hold a Ride4life event at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at 1001 N. Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg. The event will include grades 5-12 from LaBrae School District. Scott Caraboolad will share his story of hope and how he changed his life using his own experiences. He will discuss poor decision making and the value of positive choices. Caraboolad and his team perform motorcycle stunts during the presentation.
RAILROAD OPEN HOUSE: The Riverside Railroad Club will hold an open house 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Warren SCOPE Center. The club has rebuilt its outside railroad exhibit and garden.
TREE LIMB COLLECTION: Weathersfield residential tree limb chipping program will be Fridays to Oct. 6. For tree limb pickup, residents must call the township hall at 330-652-6326 by Thursday for Friday pickup.
AUXILIARY TO MEET: Trumbull County Firefighters Auxiliary met in August at the Kinsman Fire Department and voted to give Chris Maronen of Lordstown a scholarship to further his nursing career. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brookfield Fire Station. Any Trumbull County auxiliary is welcome.
