Operation Back 2 School drive underway

WARREN — With the 2017-18 school year starting in a few weeks for area children, the United Way of Trumbull County wants to make sure they have the school supplies they need for a successful year.

Cindy Rogers, campaign associate with United Way, said Operation Back 2 School will be held through Aug. 13 at participating Dollar General stores throughout the county.

Event organizers said students are in need of loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, folders, No. 2 pencils, black and red pens, highlighters, colored markers, crayons, erasers, pencil pouches, glue sticks, rulers and nylon book covers.

Participating stores are in Bristolville, 6020 Ohio 45; Champion, 4313 and 5585 Mahoning Ave; Lordstown, 6920 Tod Ave.; Mineral Ridge, 3840 S. Main St.; Newton Falls, 2010 Milton Blvd; Niles, 331 Robbins Ave.; and Warren, 2855 Mahoning Ave., 555 South St. and 1851 Tod Ave.

Rogers said the drive is being held in conjunction with Ohio’s Back-to-School Tax Free Weekend that runs today through Sunday. For information, visit www.trumbullunitedway.com. and click on the tax free weekend icon.

The United Way hosts two school supply drives a year: Operation Back 2 School in July and August and the Second Semester School Supply Drive in December and January.

To set up a collection bin at an office, store, church or school to help students in need, call the United Way of Trumbull County office at 330-369-1000. Monetary donations can be earmarked for school supplies and mailed to United Way of Trumbull County, c / o Operation Back 2 School, 3601 Youngstown Road SE, Warren, 44484.
