McDonald police to host Thunder in Park

MCDONALD — A car show held each summer in Woodland Park by the McDonald Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 194 brings in money to benefit local community groups and organizations.

The 23rd annual Thunder in the Park is set 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Park off Ohio Avenue. The rain date is Sept. 10. The event is free and will include deejay Crazy Dave.

For exhibitors, registration is 2 to 5 p.m., judging is 5 to 7 p.m. and the award ceremony is at 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is $7 and day of show registration is $10.

Ryan Ronghi, one of the event organizers, said plaques will be given to the top 50 cars with special awards Mayor’s Award, Chief of Police Award, and FOP President’s Award.

He said proceeds will benefit the annual FOP scholarship for a high school senior, local football, basketball and baseball programs and leagues, Relay for Life, McDonald Lions Club, McDonald Community Chest, which helps families in need, McDonald High School yearbook, Second Harvest Food Bank, Shop with a Cop, which gets presents to children at Christmas, McDonald Sidelines and the village Christmas tree lighting.
