EAGLE AWARD: Tyler Oaks McDowell of Boy Scout Troop 90 Hartford/Orangeville, was presented his Eagle Award during a Court of Honor held recently at the Orangeville United Methodist Church.

He began his scouting journey as a Tiger in Pack 90 of Hartford, earning his Arrow of Light, then transferring into Troop 90 of Hartford. Tyler is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Wapashuwi Lodge.

He earned his Eagle Rank on Sept. 22, 2016, after completing the 13 Eagle-required merit badges and 35 elective merit badges. During his tenure in Troop 90, McDowell held the following positions: Leave No Trace Trainer, Assistant Patrol Leader, Librarian, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Chaplain Aid, Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He also achieved five years of Pipestone from Seven Ranges Reservation Camp, his World Conservation award, Duty to God and an interpreter strip in Spanish.

McDowell will graduate in May from Joseph Badger High School and will be attending Kent State University to study construction management.

McDowell has helped the Hartford Optimist Club, Orangeville United Methodist’s Epiphany Service, Vacation Bible School, Easter egg hunts, Blessings in a Backpack as well as giving sermons at local churches.

His project was to construct stainless steel serving tables attached to the existing pavilion at the Orangeville United Methodist Church. His brother Jason built the pavilion and his other brother Gary built the picnic tables for their Eagle Projects.
