Supporting those with addictions

WALK AGAINST HEROIN: The 44444 Walk Against Heroin steps off 3 p.m. July 2 from the Newton Falls Municipal Building, 19 N. Canal St. A rally will follow at 3:30 p.m. There will be speakers and activities, and a memorial for all those who have passed away from the disease of addiction.

The event is being hosted by Fast As Lightning Construction. Call 330-230-7655 for information.

The walk will travel along North Canal, Broad, Milton Boulevard and Bridge Street through the covered bridge and crossing Center Street.

WREATH FUNDRAISER: The auxiliary at St. Joseph Warren Hospital is holding a wreath raffle through July 29.

Wreaths can be viewed and tickets purchased in the main lobby of the hospital. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A drawing will be held 1 p.m. July 29.

Proceeds from will benefit the auxiliary which supports projects at the hospital. For information, call Terry at 330-219-6243.

DOG SHOW: Champion Presbyterian Church, 4997 Mahoning Ave., Warren, will hold a dog show 6 p.m. Friday on the church grounds. The rain date is 6 p.m. Saturday. Dogs of different breeds will compete in various categories for awards and prizes.

CELEBRATING AN ANNIVERSARY: A DVD “William Holmes McGuffey: America’s School Master” is available at William Holmes McGuffey and the historical society in Youngstown, which is marking its 55th anniversary. Call 330-726-8277 for information.

McGuffey is known for the famous reading books first published in 1836 and still in print today.

UPTON HOUSE EVENTS: Several summer events are planned for the Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. The July open house is 2 to 4 p.m. July 3, featuring Christmas in July. Admission is free and visitors will be able to view three new rooms.

The annual summer garage sale will take place on July 8, and 9 with items on sale both inside the house and outside.

TAE KWON DO: Children can take part in a Tae Kwon Do class 3 p.m. Thursday at McKinley Birthplace Home. The program is free of charge presented by the McKinley Memorial Library. Also this week is ”Take a Tromp through the Swamp” with guitarist / banjoist Tom Sieling 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Niles Wellness Center, 213 Sharkey Drive, Niles.
