Regional chamber hires logistics council director
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber has hired a director for its Mahoning Valley Logistics Council, a group that will work to bolster and expand the warehouse, distribution and related industries in the region.
David Wilaj will oversee the creation of the council and its strategy, as well as all economic development projects related to the logistics industry.
The chamber and Eastgate Regional Council of Governments jointly created the council to support the 367 industry companies in the local market that include warehouse and distribution, fulfillment, trucking and third-party logistics.
“The Mahoning Valley is already a significant player in this sector,” said Guy Coviello, chamber president and CEO. “We want to put things in place so to make sure we continue to be a big player in 2030 and beyond.”
The council will consist of government officials, private-sector employers, higher education institutions, public-transportation providers, economic-development organizations, utility providers and subject-matter experts.
Part of the mission is to try to take advantage of emerging technologies that would lead to job growth in electric-vehicle manufacturing, as well as autonomous and connected mobility.
Wilaj, of Campbell, will reach directly to logistics companies in the Valley to learn of challenges and opportunities they face individually or as an industry and respond to their needs accordingly, according to the chamber.
That help could include customized supply-chain information for new markets, technical assistance for new products and systems, improving workforce development and advocacy and regulator assistance.
