VEC MARKS MILESTONE: The systems integrator division at Girard-based VEC, Inc., a local electrical and general contracting provider, is celebrating 20 years.

VEC, Inc. is comprised of six divisions that provide full contractor services to a variety of industries. The systems integrator division consists of certified engineers who provide technology solutions to customers. Their team helps customers with audio / visual applications, CCTV security applications, professional sound systems, voice and data cabling applications, and data network solutions.

The company started as a local contractor in 1965 and grew into a full-service electrical and general contracting provider. The company’s divisions are: civil and infrastructure, general contracting, industrial, oil and gas, power and systems integrator.

WCBA EARNS AWARD: The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University has been recognized as one of the top five “Career Ready” business schools in the nation in the first ever Career Readiness Leader & Innovator Awards.

The award, presented by SkillSurvey, the leading provider of talent intelligence and career readiness solutions, recognize colleges and universities that have taken the lead to measure students’ career readiness in the competency areas that employers value most.

It highlights top-performing institutions with the highest-rated students and top innovators that are excelling at promoting and marketing their career readiness programs to their students. Students at the top-performing institutions received the highest evaluator ratings from more than 60,000 supervisors and 20,000 employers.

FIREBIRDS AWARDS LOCAL EMPLOYEE: Kathy Severn, managing partner at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill in Niles, has received the Managing Partner of the Year award for her leadership, financial performance and guest satisfaction.

Severn began in the restaurant industry at Smokey Bones, where she was general manager for six years. In 2013, Severn made the move to Firebirds Wood Fired Grill in Niles as service manager and was promoted to executive chef one year later. In 2018, Severn became the restaurant’s general manager and named managing partner in 2020.

NEW EQUIPMENT AT ELLWOOD: Ellwood Aluminum in Hubbard, a large diameter aluminum ingot and billet, rectangular slab, and cast plate manufacturer has acquired a Friggi Aluminum Cutting Saw, which allows the company to make vertical, horizontal, angular and radius cuts to aluminum plates, blocks and bars without repositioning the material.

The saw allows Ellwood to reduce processing time and increase throughput because of the saw’s high-speed capability and streamlined material handling.

CAMPGROUND RECOGNIZED: Kampgrounds of America, the world’s largest family of open-to-the-public campgrounds, recently announced the Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA Holiday Campground has earned the 2022 KOA President’s Award and KOA Founder’s Award.

The KOA Founder’s Award is KOA’s highest service award. It is awarded to KOA campground owners and managers who attain high scores in customer service and the KOA Quality Review.

The KOA President’s Award is presented to those campgrounds meeting exceptional quality standards and that receive high customer service scores from their camping guests.

The awards were presented Nov. 16th at KOA’s Annual International Convention in Baton Rouge, La.

AKRON CHILDREN’S RECEIVES MAGNET RECOGNITION: Akron Children’s Hospital has attained Magnet recognition for the fourth time, the health care provider has announced.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program distinguishes health care organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice.

To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.

New Businesses

PROMOTIONS AT 717: Andy Barkley has been promoted to vice president, compliance officer for 717 Credit Union and Todd McCormick has been named assistant branch manager of the credit union’s Larchmont office.

Barkley, who has more than 30 years of credit union experience and 10 years of compliance experience, will help develop, maintain and govern 717’s compliance program to ensure conformity and adherence with all applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and internal policies.

McCormick, with more than four years of credit union experience, will assist the branch manager in overseeing member service, while maintaining daily operations of the branch.

PHYSICAL THERAPY CLINIC OPENS: Drayer Physical Therapy Institute recently opened an outpatient clinic at 4501 Belmont Ave., Suite 2, Liberty.

Drayer offers in-clinic and telehealth options for outpatient orthopedic physical therapy, including manual therapy, injury prevention, return to performance, total joint replacement, concussion management and vestibular rehabilitation programs.

Clinic director is David Ramsey of Youngstown. He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Akron and a doctor of physical therapy degree from Youngstown State University.
