Penguin City moves into W. Virginia

YOUNGSTOWN — Penguin City Brewing Co. continues to expand its distribution, this time to the Mountain State.

The company last week delivered its first shipment of beer to Wine & Beverage Merchants of West Virginia in Weirton, W.Va., north of Steubenville across the Ohio River. The two companies finalized a contract earlier this year.

In April, the company, which is renovating a downtown warehouse into its new brewhouse and taproom, began distribution in five counties in western Pennsylvania.

Penguin City expects to expand its market in Ohio with the opening of the new facility sometime later this year. The move to the former Republic warehouse, 460 E. Federal St., will allow the company to more than double its capacity, according to Penguin City.

The investment downtown is around $3.7 million, including $550,000 for new brewing equipment.
