Wagering up at Austintown racino in May
AUSTINTOWN — Wagering was up in May on video lottery terminals at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course and was way up in a year-over-year comparison, but bettors had more machines to play last month than a year ago.
The facility on state Route 46 saw $116.3 million in credits played, up from $110.5 million in April, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission, which oversees video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in Ohio.
May 2018 wagering was $95.4 million, but players had less machines available — 1,034 compared to 1,101 last month.
Credits won was $103.4 million in May, up from $98.2 million in April and from $84.4 million in May 2018. The net win in May was $11.2 million compared to $10.8 million in April and $9.5 million last May.
Last month, the percent payout was 90.3, up from 90.2 percent in April, and the VLT win per day was $331, up $3 from April. The average number of VLTs in April was 1,101.
Of the net winnings in May, $7.4 million went to Penn National Gaming Inc. the Wyomissing, Pa., company that operates the racino; $3.7 million to the lottery commission; and $37,511 to problem gambling services.
Last month at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, also owned by Penn National, $106.6 million credits were played and $94.8 million credits were won compared to $102.4 million and $91 million the prior month. The net win was $9.9 million, up from $9.7 million in April.
In May 2018, the raceway posted $87.9 million in credits played, $77.7 million in credits won and a net win of $8.7 million.
For May, the percent payout was 90.7, up from 90.5 percent in April; average number of VLTs, 1,051, down from 1,058; and the VLT win per day was $304, down $3 from the previous month.
Of the net winnings, $6.5 million went to Penn National; $3.3 million to the lottery commission; and $32,969 to problem gambling services.
Statewide at Ohio’s seven facilities with VLTs last month, there was $1 billion in credits played; $939 million in credits won; and a net win of $95.9 million. The percent payout was 90.9; average number of VLTs, 11,499; and there was a per day VLT win of $269.
In April, $982 million in credits were played; $877 million in credits won; and a net win of $89.6 million. The percent payout was 90.8; average number of VLTs, 11,206; and per day VLT win, $267.
Last month, $63.4 million of the net win was given to operators; $32.1 million to the lottery commission; and $318,907 to problem gambling services.
