CORTLAND BANKS SUPPORTS YBI: Cortland Banks has donated $5,000 to the Youngstown Business Incubator in support of the organization’s expanded services in both information technology and advanced manufacturing. The University Business Incubator Index from Stockholm, Sweden, named the YBI, which focuses on developing technology- based business in the community, the No. 1 University Associated Incubator in the world.

SAFECO RECOGNIZES PAIGE AND BYRNES: Safeco Insurance has recognized Paige and Byrnes Insurance Agency in Warren with a Safeco Premier Partner Program award for performance and partnership. Fewer than 10 percent of independent insurance agencies countrywide that sell Safeco personal lines products receive this distinguished honor.

MILANIA’S CLOSET HAS RIBBON CUTTING: Milania’s Closet, 8400 E. Market St., Howland, recently held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate its grand opening. The boutique, owned by Kim Pesa, opened Dec. 11.

FAHNERT JOINS KEYNOTE: Television account executive John Fahnert has taken the position of senior business development officer with the marketing firm Keynote Media Group, LLC, a full-service marketing firm in downtown Youngstown. After serving in the U.S. Army, the Sebring native graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in political science. He began his career in the television industry at WYTV Channel 33 as an account executive before moving to a similar position in 1988 at WKBN-TV, where he rose to the level of senior account executive. Fahnert lives in Hermitage, Pa., with his wife, Beth Prizant.

DIORIO NAMED HOWARD HANNA MANAGER: Howard Hanna Real Estate Services named Lori Diorio manager at the Howland office, mentoring more than 20 agents, helping them to grow their business and market share in Trumbull County. Previously, Diorio worked in public health for the Mahoning County Board of Health, and later as the Director of Environmental Health for Struthers City. She became an agent with Howard Hanna 10 years ago, working out of the Poland office. She has been a multi-million-dollar producer since 2009 and was recognized with Howard Hanna’s Superior Quality Service Award, as well as membership in the prestigious Howard Hanna Champions Club. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science.

CORTLAND BANK DONATES TO TRUMBULL FAMILY FITNESS: Cortland Banks recently announced it is making a $5,000 donation to Trumbull Family Fitness in support of a capital campaign being launched to perform an architectural and marketing feasibility study. The assessment will focus on capital improvements and future development of the downtown Warren location, where the Trumbull Family Fitness Center operates.

OH WOW! RECEIVES HOMES SAVINGS DONATIONS: OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology has received a $25,000 donation from the Home Savings Charitable Foundation for science and technology. The funds are earmarked for the Sound & Light WOW! Zone.

VEC EMPLOYEES BECOMES AMERICAN CITIZEN: Ahmad Omishat, an electrical engineer for VEC Inc., recently was sworn in as an American citizen in a naturalization oath ceremony in Youngstown. Omishat, who is originally from Jordan, has been with Girard-based VEC for almost a year. He moved to the United States to attend college at Youngstown State University.

HOWLAND ALARM ADDS NEW CAMERAS: Howland Alarm Co., a commercial and residential alarm business, has added new IP video digital cameras to the company’s security camera product line. IP (Internet Protocol) cameras are digital video cameras that can send and receive data via a computer network or the Internet.

COVELLI RECEIVES BOY SCOUT HONOR: Laurel Highlands Council Boy Scouts, Scoutreach Division of the Boy Scouts of America recently recognized Sam Covelli of Covelli Enterprises in Warren, with the 2016 Whitney M. Young Award. Jason Flowers, director of special projects for the Laurel Highlands Council, said Covelli was selected for the honor because of the work that he and his employees do to help communities across the Pittsburgh region. The Whitney M. Young Award is named in honor of the late executive director of the national Urban League, who died in Nigeria in 1971.

CRICKET OPENS IN LIBERTY: A ceremonial ribbon cutting for Cricket Wireless / Wireless Exchange, 3614 Belmont Ave., Liberty, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today. The new locally owned and operated store is part of Wireless Exchange, the largest Cricket Wireless retailer in the state of Ohio.

INFI LLC HOLDS GRAND OPENING: INFI LLC,157 W. Market St., Warren, a technology solutions and field service company, recently held its grand opening. The new store offers various computer services, phone repair services, security camera systems and also alarm systems.

WAYNE HOMES PROMOTES WESSEL: Ohio-based custom home builder Wayne Homes announced that Steve Wessel has been promoted to regional vice president of construction. Wessel started his career with Wayne Homes in 2014 as the construction manager at the company’s Belmont office.

YSU NAMES ASSOCIATE PROVOST: Youngstown State University recently appointed Nathan R. Myers as the new associate provost for international and global initiatives. Previously, Myers was executive director of international programs division at Ashland University. Myers will start the new position March 16.

REAL LIVING RECOGNIZES TOP FEBRUARY AGENTS: Real Living Brokers Realty Group recognized Melissa Palmer as top listing agent in units and volume and top sales agent in units in February. Ginny Bond was top sales agent in volume.

KLACIK WELCOMES FARRIS: Arlene Farris has joined Klacik Real Estate as a real estate agent. Farris has been in real estate for the past 25 years and has worked at other local brokerages. She earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Youngstown State University and taught Latin at Poland High School from 1968 to 1970. She also worked with Youngstown City Schools for 20 years before retiring in 2009.
