Dominion East Ohio rates down 34% over ’15
WARREN – January rates for Dominion East Ohio’s Standard Choice Offer / Standard Service Offer are 7.5 percent higher than last month’s rates, but 33.9 percent lower than than they were this time last year.
Effective Jan. 14, this month’s rates are $2.392 per thousand cubic feet (mcf). The revised rates are 16.6 cents/mcf higher than the December 2015 SCO/SSO rates of $2.226 per mcf, but $1.227/mcf lower than the January 2015 SCO/SSO rates of $3.619/mcf.
Company leaders attributed the lower rates to the development of shale energy resources in Ohio and other states that has led to lower national market prices for natural gas.
They said increased regional shale gas production combined with milder-than-normal weather will result in lower January bills for Dominion East Ohio’s Standard Choice Offer customers.
Under the company’s January filing on Monday, the average SCO/SSO residential customer’s bill for the month would be $75.43, down $27.26, or 26.5 percent, from $102.69 in January 2015.
