Ryan urges General Electric to reconsider moving to Ohio

Tribune Chronicle

WARREN – U.S. Rep. Timothy J. Ryan, D-Howland, is urging General Electric to reconsider Cincinnati for its corporate headquarters.

Ryan sent a letter to Jeffrey Immelt, GE chairman / CEO, after reports surfaced the company decided against moving its headquarters to Cincinnati because some Ohio Republicans oppose a federal agency that helps U.S. exporters.

Ryan wrote Monday he is “deeply disappointed” by reports of GE’s decision because “the opposition to the Export-Import Bank by Ohio’s Governor and Republican members of our Congressional delegation.”

“I assure you that these elected officials’ position does not reflect the majority of leaders in our great state. . . I respectfully ask General Electric to reconsider Cincinnati for its corporate headquarters.”

Connecticut-based GE closed its Ohio Lamp Plant in Warren in January 2014 and the former Niles Mahoning Glass plant in 2008.
