No settlement reached at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN — Despite statements from Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel this afternoon that an agreement could come today, faculty union spokesman Mark Vopat indicated late this afternoon that no agreement has been reached.
Negotiations have ended for the day and the strike and picketing will resume tomorrow morning.
He said it’s likely that negotiations will resume tomorrow as well.
Vopat said an offer made today did address wages but did not address the host of other issues important to the union that the administration wants to strip from previous contracts.
Vopat said what is “suspiciously absent” from the university’s most recent proposal are “all of the other requests we have made to keep the same rights we had in our last contract.”
He said these include election of chairpersons, determination of class sizes, workload issues and an appeals process for tenure and promotion.
