YSU professor guest conducts Packard band
The W.D. Packard Concert Band will play music “From the Stage to the Silver Screen” at its next concert.
Michael S Butler will be guest conductor for the performance at the south lawn bandshell of Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Butler is director of bands and an associate professor of music at Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music.
He oversees the band and orchestra program, conducts the wind ensemble and orchestra. Leads the graduate wind conducting program and serves as music director for the YSU Youth Orchestra.
The program will include Miklos Rosza’s “Parade of the Charioteers” from the movie “Ben Hur,” selections from “Beauty and the Beast,” Hayden Wood’s “Montmartre March” from the “Paris Suite,” Frank Ticheli’s “Rest,” George Kenny’s “Coat of Arms” march, Jack End’s “Blues for a Killed Kat,” W.P. Chambers’ “Chicago Tribune” march, a suite from the ballet “Pineapple Poll” and the medley “Jerome Robbins Broadway.”
The concert starts at 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and funding is provided by the W.D. Packard trust.
