Pair returns for NMG concert

SA husband-and-wife duo that performed for the New Music Guild’s winter concert will return for an encore.

Brendan and Karen Considine, playing works by classical and modern composers, will be part of the guild’s 13th Spring Concert on Sunday. Brendan Considine, violin, plays with the Greenville and Youngstown symphony orchestras, the Warren Philharmonic and Opera Western Reserve.

He also is an administrator with eight years of teaching experience in Youngstown and Alliance Schools, as administrator and classroom supervisor with The Rich Autism Center and currently as executive director of the Mahoning Valley Montessori School. He has taught violin and string pedagogy at Thiel and Westminster colleges and at Youngstown State University.

Karen Considine is active as a violinist and pianist and performs with the Youngstown and Greenville symphony orchestras, Warren Philharmonic and Stellare Strings. She is choir accompanist at First Presbyterian Church in Hubbard.

The concert will open with performances by New Music Guild coordinators Gwyneth Rollin, violin, and Robert Rollin, piano. They will play several of Robert Rollin’s works, including Lyric Counterpoint on a Theme by Warshawsky, “Passover Songs” and “African Images.” Robert Rollin also will perform several of his solo piano works.

The Considines will play several Rollin works, as well as pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach and others.

The concert starts at 2 p.m. Sunday in the basement social hall of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 343 Via Mt. Carmel,Youngstown. Admission is free, and a reception will follow the concert.
