Imani Winds closes Performing Arts Series season at Cliffe College

The quintet Imani Winds will be the final concert of the 2024-25 Cliffe College Performing Arts Series.

The wind ensemble — Brandon Patrick George, flute; Toyin Spellman-Diaz, oboe; Kevin Newton, horn; Mark Dover, clarinet; and Monica Ellis, bassoon — won the Grammy Award in 2024 for best classical compendium for its album “Passion for Bach and Coltrane.”

It embraces traditional classical repertoire and performs newly commissioned works. Imani Winds performs regularly at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center, and the group holds workshops and masterclasses for thousands of students each year.

The quintet also holds the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival each summer in New York City to teach musical excellence and career development to pre-professional instrumentalists and composers.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. Friday in Bliss Hall’s Ford Theater on the Youngstown State University Campus.

Tickets are $33 for adults, $28 for senior citizens and YSU faculty and staff, $12 for teens ages 13 to 17 and free for YSU students and children ages 12 and younger.

Tickets are available online at ysu.tix.com

Starting at $3.23/week.
