WYSU-FM brings award-winning guitarist to Youngstown
Grammy-winning classical guitarist David Russell will play a free concert Sunday at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Russell won a Grammy in 2005 for best instrumental soloist in classical music for his album “Aire Latino.” He also was inducted into the Guitar Foundation of America’s Hall of Fame in 2018.
According to his website, Russell has recorded 28 albums, the most recent of which is “Cantigas de Santiago,” a collection of contemporary works written for him.
Russell studied at the Royal Academy, during which time he won numerous international competitions, including the Andres Segovia, Jose Ramirez and Francisco Tarrega competition as well as being a two-time winner of the Julian Bream Guitar Prize.
The concert is sponsored by WYSU-FM as part of the public radio station’s 55th anniversary and starts at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
