Shaker Heights native leads ‘Parade’
The national tour of “Parade,” which won the 2023 Tony Award for best musical revival, comes to Cleveland on Tuesday as part of the Playhouse Square’s KeyBank Broadway Series.
Leading the touring cast is Shaker Heights native Max Chernin as Leo Frank, a Jewish factory manager accused of murdering a teenage girl in Georgia in 1913.
Chernin played a smaller role in the Broadway cast of the musical, and his other Broadway credits include the revival of “Sunday in the Park with George” with Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford and the Steve Martin / Edie Brickell musical “Bright Star.”
Frank’s wife is played by Talia Suskauer, who appeared as Elphaba in “Wicked” both on Broadway and on tour.
The Jason Robert Brown / Alfred Uhry musical debuted on Broadway in 1998, and that production won Tony Awards for best book and best score and a Drama Desk Award for outstanding musical.
Michael Arden, who won a Tony for directing the revival, also directed the national tour.
“Parade” runs Tuesday through Feb. 23 at Connor Palace, 1519 Euclid Ave. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 1 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets range from $29 to $119 and are available online at playhouse
