Pink Out celebrates breast cancer survivors
Several musical acts will perform Tuesday at Austintown Township Park for Pink Out, a Mahoning Valley breast cancer awareness event.
The festival, which debuted last year, is the brainchild of breast cancer survivor Sheila Kroll-Dickinson, and the focus is to celebrate cancer survivors and remember lost loved ones.
“There’s so much doom and gloom with cancer, and a cancer diagnosis is a very serious thing,” according to Kroll-Dickinson. “But it’s also important that we all continue to support each other, to live our lives to the fullest as much and as long as we can. I wanted to encourage myself and others to celebrate life, to celebrate each other, and to remember to be grateful for the life and the time we have together.”
The event will include a 45-minute acoustic set at 6:30 p.m. by Jackie Popovec, John Anthony and Rick Deak of The Vindys. The band recently finished a nationwide summer tour opening for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo.
Music starts at 3 p.m. with Meet Virginia, which also will close the event at 8 p.m. Other acts scheduled to perform include Julie Rae Barbiaux Benner at 3:30 p.m., David Granati and Hermie Granati at 4 p.m., Terry and Diane McCabe at 4:30 p.m., Solo Sixstrng at 5:10 p.m., Untamed at 5:50 p.m. and Diane Drapcho at 7:20 p.m.
