Medici announces new Lunch and Learn series
Medici Museum of Art is partnering with Ohio Living for a Lunch and Learn series starting in October.
Katelyn Amendolara-Russo, director of the Howland museum, said the series was conceived in conjunction with “Building Bridges Across Age,” an exhibition featuring work created by Ohio Living-Lake Vista residents in Cortland who take its Opening Minds through the Arts (OMA) classes.
“When I met with (Lake Vista Executive Director) Brian Kolenich, I actually worked with him years ago at Park Vista,” she said. “I was one of the educators for their Lunch and Learn series. I did a program called ‘Teas Around the World.’ We started developing ideas to bring awareness for OMA and the exhibit and decided this was a great opportunity to create our own learning institute in Trumbull County.”
Amendolara-Russo collaborated with Denise Rubano, director of program services for Ohio Living, to create the first four programs in the series.
“We wanted to make it well-balanced with history, arts, culture and well being,” Amendolara-Russo said.
The series starts Oct. 6 with “Norman Rockwell: The Man Behind His Paintings.” Artist Felicia Zaverella Stadelman will provide facts and stories about some of Rockwell’s most famous works.
Other programs in 2022 include “William Cafaro: The Birth of the United States Mall Industry,” by Tom Welsh, author of “The Life and Legacy of William M. Cafaro,” on Nov. 3; “Crystal Healing,” a program on how working with crystals can benefit daily life by Shannon Robinson, owner of Orion’s Realm, on Nov. 17; and “Relax with the Sounds of the Season,” with Maria Lallo-Wagner and Calvin Wagner from the Center for Sound Therapy on Dec. 1.
The series will resume in February 2023 with monthly programs planned through June with the lineup to be announced.
All of the programs start at 11 a.m. at the museum, 9350 E. Market St., Howland. The cost is $10 per program and includes a box lunch.
The museum received a grant from the Ohio Arts council to provide the initial funding for the series along with support from Ohio Living. Amendolara-Russo said the museum is looking for local underwriters to be able to continue the series.
