Playhouse announces theater classes for both kids and adults

Youngstown Playhouse will offer six classes starting in September, including:

• Little Monsters, a beginning / intermediate musical theater class for children ages 5 to 8, where students will sing, dance, act and create their own monster mask;

• Stage Performance I, for children ages 9 to 12. It covers the basics of stage movement, improvisation, pantomiming, audition techniques, theater tech and more;

• Stage Performance II, also for children ages 9 to 12. Designed for students who have experience with past classes and productions, it will introduce theater vocabulary, explore new script and characters and include creating props;

• Creator’s Corner, for students ages 13 to 17, gives teenagers the opportunity to write, act and direct their own sketches;

• The Actor’s Toolbox: Acting Class for Adults, with Christopher Fidram provides the opportunity to explore different acting methods and techniques, partake in scene study and challenge oneself though a variety of creative exercises;

• Friday Night Live, designed for adults to explore the fundamentals of comedy sketch writing with comedian Shane Herman.

Classes run Sept. 10 through Oct. 15. The cost is $80 for students who register by Aug. 21 and $100 after that. To register or for more information, go to youngstownplayhouse.org/classes-workshops or call 330-788-8739.
