YOUNGSTOWN — For the last decade, the living dead have roamed the streets of Youngstown … or at least the stage at the Calvin Center.

Rust Belt Theater Company’s “Living Dead the Musical” returns Friday for a three-weekend run.

Written by Robert Dennick Joki and Josh Taylor, the musical is a spoof of classic horror films, with George A. Romero’s 1868 black-and-white cult classic “Night of the Living Dead” as its most obvious target.

It follows the story of a group of strangers who board themselves up in an abandoned farmhouse in order to escape the zombie apocalypse. Personalities clash and tensions rise as the undead hoard falls upon the house for an evening of music, parody and dancing.

After a three-year hiatus, Rust Belt founder Joki will direct this year’s production.

The cast features Nicole Zayas, Kage Coven, Emelia Sherin, Jacob Nash, Vicci Sfikas, Dean LaSalandra, Leah Ifft, Josh Yohman, James Hain, Martin Davis, Brooke Nobbs, Jude Mikulich, Samuel Mentzer, Caitlyn Murphy, Corey Ensell, Sarah Whitlach, Celena Coven and Elena Loedding.

“Living Dead the Musical” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Oct. 30 at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. A special midnight performance also is planned for the final night. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.

Rust Belt requires that all actors receive their COVID-19 vaccinations prior to opening night. It is strongly recommended that unvaccinated individuals wear masks to any RBTC event.
