Butler announces Midyear winners
Eleven artists received awards for the 85th National Midyear Exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art.
H. Anderson Turner, director of the School of Art Collection & Galleries at Kent State University, selected the winners from the 140 entries selected for inclusion in the show by artist Paul Ching Bor.
Marc Ross of Columbus won the Fred Staloff Best in Show award for his large-scale canvas “This Instant.”
Other award winners are: first place, Lynn Davison, Naples, Fla.; second place, Chuck Fischer, Rocky River; third place, Josh Mitchel, Pittsburgh; Director’s Award, Alice Carpenter, Columbus; Allied Artists of America Award, Debrah Butler, Kent; and Phil Desind Award, Bruce McCombs, Holland, Mich.
Four artists received honorable mention recognition: Harold Zabady, Camp Hill, Pa.; Alberto George Carol, Miami, Fla.; Ryn Clarke, Chagrin Falls; and Glenn Jambor, Chagrin Falls.
The 85th Midyear will be on display through Sept. 5 at the Butler, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, go to www.butlerart.com and 330-743-1107.
