Stambaugh offers summer arts camp

Stambaugh Auditorium will offer a Children’s Summer Arts Camp starting June 28.

The weeklong program is designed to increase children’s access to, knowledge of and appreciation for the arts.

It will be open to up to 70 school-aged children and will culminate with a production of the musical “Sleeping Beauty” on July 2. The camp will involve Missoula Children’s Theatre, a Montana-based group whose mission is to develop life skills in children through participation in the performing arts, as well as local arts organizations, including Ballet Western Reserve, Opera Western Reserve, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, Jewish Community Center and Youngstown Playhouse.

Stambaugh is partnering with the Youngstown Department of Parks and Recreation, the Boys and Girls Club and the Jewish Community Center to make the camp available to interested students who already are enrolled in one of Youngstown’s Summer Day Camp programs.

Stambaugh’s goal is to provide the camp at no additional cost to the children who participate. It is being underwritten in part by Denise and John York and the DeBartolo Corp., the United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley, the Walter and Caroline Watson Foundation and the Youngstown Foundation.

Additional sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting JoAnn Stock, Stambaugh’s chief development officer, by emailing jstock@stambaughauditorium.com or calling 330-747-5175.
