Butler, Kim Novak collaborate on book
The Butler Institute of American Art is publishing a book with actor / artist Kim Novak.
“Kim Novak: Her Art and Life” is not a tell-all autobiography; it’s a 156-paged softcover retrospective of her poetry and artwork. Novak, best known for her roles in such films as “Vertigo,” “Picnic” and “Bell, Book and Candle,” has had two exhibitions of her art at the Butler.
“We are so proud to serve as publisher of Kim Novak’s wonderful book on her life and art,” said Louis A. Zona, executive director and chief curator of the Butler. “She is a star in every sense of the word, and her unique abilities as a painter as well as a legendary actress comes through loud and clear in the pages of ‘Kim Novak: Her Life and Art’ … She is truly special in every way and we are grateful to have played a small part in her remarkable career.”
The planning for the book came to fruition during Novak’s retrospective exhibition in the summer of 2019 as part of the Butler’s 100th Anniversary celebration. It included more than 75 pieces of Novak’s artwork, including works in oil, watercolor, pastel, photography, sculpture, stained glass and poetry.
Her pastel paintings were shown in a 2014 exhibition.
A limited number of signed and unsigned copies of “Kim Novak: Her Art and Life” have been produced and are available for purchase on The Butler’s website, butler art.com/shop/. Proceeds from the sale of the book are being donated to help fund programming at the Butler.
