OWR announces an online concert series
Soprano Marian Vogel will be the first performer in a new online series presented by Youngstown’s Opera Western Reserve.
“OWR Presents:” allows opera fans and those curious about opera to enjoy local opera while staying safe at home or wherever they stream.
“Summer Songs with Marian Vogel” will feature the regionally-renowned soprano, accompanied by pianist Benjamin Malkevitch, performing a virtual recital that will be available for free, online streaming beginning Wednesday. More information is available on Facebook and at OperaWesternReserve.org
Recorded in Stambaugh Auditorium’s concert hall, the program contains opera favorites, show tunes and behind-the-scenes extras.
Vogel has appeared in six Opera Western Reserve production, including singing the title role in 2018’s “Madama Butterfly.” She made her Carnegie Hall debut singing the soprano solos in the Mozart Requiem and Rutter’s Magnificat under the baton of composer John Rutter. She has also performed on numerous occasions at Cleveland’s Severance Hall with the Cleveland Orchestra under the baton of Franz Welser-Most.
In place of its usual fall performance will be “OWR Presents: A Taste of La Traviata.” This production features video highlights of “La Traviata,” recorded at Stambaugh Auditorium. While online streaming cannot replace the live opera experience, this production takes full advantage of the format and shows scenes in and around Stambaugh. The opera cast will feature three singers new to OWR.
This “taste” of La Traviata will be released for viewing Nov. 13.
