The Dana School of Music hosts Horn Day

The Dana School of Music will have its eighth Horn Day on Feb. 23.

The event, which is geared toward musicians, teachers, students and parents, will include a recital and masterclass with guest artist Elizabeth Freimuth, principal horn of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Freimuth has performed as the featured soloist with the Cincinnati Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Overland Park Symphony (Kansas) and the Lakewood Symphony (Colorado). She has also performed as a guest principal horn with the San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Saint Louis Symphony.

She is on the adjunct horn faculty at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and has taught at University of Missouri in Kansas City Conservatory of Music.

Freimuth is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and a recipient of its coveted Performer’s Certificate, and she earned her master’s degree at Rice University Shepherd School of Music.

Other attractions during Horn Day include a mass horn choir performance, horn and product displays by several music companies and light refreshments.

Horn Day runs noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 23 at Bliss Hall. The event is free but advance registration, is requested at ysu.edu/dana.
