Guest artist to play Mozart with orchestra

Pianist Di Wu will play Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor as part of the next Youngstown Symphony Orchestra concert.

The Chinese-born musician made her professional debut at 14 with the Beijing Philharmonic and came to the United States in 1999 to study at the Manhattan School of Music. She also studied at the Curtis School of Music and Juilliard.

She is the winner of numerous awards, including runner up in the 2009 Van Cliburn Competition. She has toured on four continents and performed with the Pittsburgh, Boston, Seattle, Cincinnati and Washington, D.C., orchestras and played recitals at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. She last played with YSO in 2012.

The Mozart concerto she will play was written in 1785 and first performed with Mozart as the soloist in the Gehlgrube Casino in Vienna. It is one of Mozart’s most popular concertos and was a favorite of Ludwig van Beethoven, who played it on many occasions.

Conductor Randall Craig Fleischer will lead the orchestra in a performance that also includes the Brook Green Suite by Gustav Holst and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5.

The concert starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford Family Recital Hall, DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Tickets range from $20 to $55 and are available at the DeYor box office, online at youngstownsymphony .com and by calling 330-744-0264.
