Area Artists Annual winners announced

Justin Reese of Youngstown received best in show honors in the 81st Area Arts Annual exhibition, currently on display at the Butler Institute of American Art Trumbull Branch.

Reese was recognized by juror Russell Maddick, professor emeritus from the art department at Youngstown State University, for his porcelain vessel “Lotus and Worm.”

The award winners were announced during a reception Sunday for the opening of the exhibition. Other winners include Evian Zukas-Oguz of Greenville, Pa., first place; Robert Demechko of Poland, second place; Thomas Harwood of Niles, third place; and Carol Gallo of Girard, the Robert Yalch Memorial Award.

Ten artists were singled out for honorable mention — Tazim Jaffer, Girard; Maryann Limmer, Poland; Jody Nudell, Girard; Hoda Rouweyha, Warren; Mark Scheuring, Salem; Rick Shale, Youngstown; Guy Shively, Austintown; Gail Trunick, Burghill; Clara K. Wick, Hubbard; and Don Wright, Canfield.

The exhibition is open to artists who live in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties in Ohio, and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania. It will be on display through Nov. 27 at the Butler-Trumbull, 9250 E. Market St., Howland. Hours are Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
