‘This Is Us’ writer speaks at YSU

Ursuline High School graduate Vera Herbert, who is a writer and producer on the NBC series “This Is Us,” will speak at noon Sept. 27 at Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration auditorium.

Herbert will deliver a short talk on her journey, opportunities and challenges in the entertainment industry and tips for working in Hollywood. Her talk will be followed by a Q&A session.

Herbert won the Writers Guild Award for outstanding writing for episodic drama and is a three-time Emmy nominee. She also worked on the MTV series “Awkward” and her screenplay “Don’t Make Me Go” was included on the prestigious Black List for 2012 of the best unproduced screenplays. It’s currently in development at Big Beach Films.

Her first published pieces of fiction were two short stories featured in YSU’s Penguin Review in 2007. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Brandon. Admission is free.
