‘Forbidden’ briefly returns
Rust Belt Theater Company brings back “Forbidden Youngstown” for two performances this weekend.
The bawdy musical revue, now in its seventh year, is a spoof of local theater culture.
According to Rust Belt founder Robert Dennick Joki, “I’ve always had a love / hate relationship with my hometown. I think most people do, and it’s important to have a good sense of humor about it.”
Rust Belt wasn’t going to stage the revue this year, but Joki said they added the brief run at the request of both patrons and the theater company’s regular performers.
The cast includes Heather Powell, Lisa Torrence, Kage Coven, Celena Coven, Wesley Miller, Jeremy Grimes, Geri Dewitt, James Hain, Keith Ian, Mary Boldish James, Amanda Rudnytsky, Bernadette Lim, Wesley Miller and Joki.
The performance also will include some songs from new musicals that Rust Belt will premiere in its upcoming season, “Franken Fabulous” and “Serial Monogamy.”
“Forbidden Youngstown” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
