Wrestling returns to Scrappers field

Several grappling legends will appear Saturday at Eastwood Field in Niles for Wrestling Under the Stars.

This year’s lineup includes Kurt Angle, who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics and was a WWF / WWE and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling champion, and Jerry “The King” Lawler, who started wrestling in 1970 and competed in different Southern wrestling alliances before joining the WWF in 1992. Lawler also is known by non-wrestling fans for his appearances with comedian Andy Kaufman in the early 1980s and playing himself in the Kaufman biofilm “Man on the Moon.”

Other wrestlers scheduled to appear include Big Cass, Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix, Darby Allin, Billy Gunn, Christy Hemme and Funaki.

Matches start at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m., and there will be a meet-and-greet for all fans in attendance prior to the event. Photographs and autographs will be available for an additional charge.
