Rust Belt brings back drag fundraiser

The Rust Belt Theater Company will present Fundraising Is a Drag on Friday.

This risque cabaret-style musical will feature performances by drag queen Starrlet O’Hara (Rust Belt founder Robert Dennick Joki) and her colorful entourage of gender-bending companions.

“We do two fundraising events a year in order to help keep the theater running,” Joki said. “‘How The Drag Queen Stole Christmas’ gets us through the winter months, and ‘Fundraising Is a Drag’ helps us in the summer.

“Both productions allow us to continue producing locally written, avant garde theater, that you won’t see anywhere else. The RBTC survives entirely on ticket sales, and it is because of our patrons that we are about to enter our 10th season of entertaining the Valley.”

The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Admission is $15, and each ticket to the performance will serve as a raffle ticket. As the evening progresses, the performers will pull tickets at random, allowing audience members to choose gifts from the wall of fabulous prizes, including theater tickets, local artwork and jewelry.
