First Art Hop set for Saturday
Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County will have its first Art Hop of 2019 on Saturday in downtown Warren.
FACT Director James Shuttic said about eight to 10 area artists will be displaying and selling their original work from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with acoustic music provided by Abe Thomas Slater.
“The key focus of it has stayed the same — providing opportunities for artists to showcase their work and get it out to the public, and for the public to come downtown and visit local businesses,” Shuttic said.
The second half of that mission is the reason FACT is setting up artists on downtown sidewalks instead of Courthouse Square.
“When the artists are set up on the sidewalk on North Park Avenue, it encourages people to visit the businesses on the square more than when it was set up in Courthouse Square,” Shuttic said. “Our goal is to drive more people to the businesses, not work against them but work for them.”
Saturday also will be the last day to view the “May the Fourth Be with You” exhibition at Art on Park. Several hundred people attended the opening reception for the “Star Wars”-themed art show on May 4, which has become an unofficial holiday for fans of the film series as a as a play on words from the movie’s catchphrase “May the Force be with you.”
The artists who have studios in Art on Park will be open during the event, and Trumbull Art Gallery has regular hours from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Additional Art Hops are scheduled for July 13 and Sept. 21 (during Warren Homecoming weekend), Shuttic said, and two more are possibilities — an October event to coincide with the Dark on Park exhibit at the Art on Park building, 180 N. Park Ave., Warren, and one in December.
