Rust Belt brings back ‘Dating Sucks’

Rust Belt Theater Company serves up the antidote to another disappointing Valentine’s Day with “Dating Sucks: The Musical,” which returns Friday for a three-weekend run.

Written by Robert Dennick Joki with orchestrations by Josh Taylor, this revue-style musical explores the peaks and pitfalls of modern dating, with cringeworthy, real-life dating stories and original songs.

The show also features dialogue taken directly from online dating profiles and mobile dating app conversations. It’s a raunchy multimedia musical that leaves little to the imagination. The show is updated annually to reflect the current dating climate.

Kage Coven directs and appears in the show. The rest of the cast includes Janelle Yohman, Lisa Torrence, Alicia Royer, Celena Coven, Jessica Patoray, Ryan Musgrove, Josh Yohman, Sahar Khatib, Heather Powell, Keith Stepanic, Samuel Mentzer and Joki.

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through March 2 at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
