Millennial Theatre Company premieres new AIDS drama
‘Drop of Blood’ plays for two weekend run
The Millennial Theatre Company will stage the world premiere of “Drop of Blood” for a two-weekend run.
The play was written by Gertrude Brooke of Mansfield and was selected from about 30 submissions for MTC’s third Millennial Written Works competition.
According to artistic director Joe Asente, “We are so excited to have an Ohio-based millennial author for this year’s show. Our goal is to give a voice to a generation, and by choosing a more local author for this year’s production, we are also able to give a voice to a region.”
“Drop Of Blood” is the story of an unbreakable friendship between two young women. Mandy is left to watch helplessly as her friend Regan battles AIDS. Regan must find a way to say goodbye to those she cares about, while Mandy deals with her own issues.
Mariah Cresanto directs a cast featuring Sarah Ferguson-Burns as Regan and Kelli Young as Mandy along with Tylor Zuniga, Barb Malizia, Isabella Sandberg, Sofia Sandberg and Dominick Spisak.
“The work this cast has put into this show is inspiring,” Cresanto said. “I can’t wait to get an audience in to see these performers deliver a very moving, yet very real, performance.”
The production is produced in conjunction with the Rust Belt Theater Company and will be staged in Rust Belt’s performance space at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Feb. 8 and 9. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students and senior citizens and can be reserved at www.millennialtheatre.org.
