Playhouse Youth Theatre heads to ‘Treasure Island’

A Robert Louis Stevenson classic gets a gender switch at Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre.

In this reimagining of “Treasure Island,” adapted by Kathryn Petersen and Michael Ogborn, young Jim Hawkins becomes Jamie Hawkins, a girl searching for treasure with her family and hoping to outwit Long John Silver and his band of pirates.

The cast includes Elizabeth Jadue, Kenny Day, Lilly Andrei, Carl Brockway, Evan Brockway, Aubrey DeJacimo, Jaietta Jackson, Jibril Jackson, Erica Kovach, Eden Lesnansky, John Monroe, Aiden O’Bryant, Mikey Zoccali, Miah Dattilo, Lillian Gerst, Priscilla Kovach and Bella O’Bryant.

It is directed by Joanna Andrei with Kate Pelini and Sarah Jane Demetruk serve as assistant director and stage manager.

“Treasure Island” will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, Youngstown. Tickets are $13 for adults and $9 for children 12 and younger and are available online at and by calling 330-788-8739.
