Musical comedy includes audience

Rust Belt Theater Company will stage the musical comedy “We R Just Men” for a one-weekend run.

Written by Harold Davis of Youngstown, the show first was staged in 2007 and there also was a 2010 production. Davis plays Bill Saunders, a recently deceased truck driver, who presents his life in song to the audience at a restaurant in North Lima. It’s up to the audience to decide whether Bill goes to heaven or hell, a choice that isn’t easy as the audience learns how Bill killed his wife.

According to Davis, the show has been updated, adding several new songs to the best tunes from previous productions. Davis performs with Kristina Terlecki and Jeff Bremer in the band Kristi Blue and the Midnites, and the new songs have been tailored to fit Terlecki’s sultry country voice and Davis’ traditional blues sound.

Rust Belt founder Robert Dennick Joki will direct the production and play a role.

According to Joki, “We at the Rust Belt have been performing original shows for more than eight years now. Before heading up the Rust Belt, I worked at the Oakland Center for the Arts, where Harold was then and is now again board president. We are going to use some of the best actors and singers in our Rust Belt ensemble in the show along with Harold and Kristina.”

The rest of the cast includes Angelisa Beltran, Jack Rusk, Jessica Patoray, David Cirelli and Ryan Musgrove.

“We R Just Men” will be staged 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
