Lit Youngstown hosts World Poetry Night

Lit Youngstown will have a World Poetry Night for its next First Wednesday reading.

The program will include works from Bosnia, Cuba, England, Haiti and Lebanon read by the poets or their translators.

Readers will include Dragana Crnjak, Mahmoud Kambris, Steven Reese, Karen Schubert, Kathleen Strafford and Sony Q. Ton-Aime.

The program will be followed by an open mic, emceed by Stephanie Stearns. Participants are encouraged to bring an international contemporary poem.

The free event starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St., Youngstown. Doors open at 7:15. Ethnic refreshments will be served.

Registration still is open for Lit Youngstown’s second Fall Literary Festival, which runs Sept. 21 and 22 at Youngstown State University and St. John’s Episcopal Church, Youngstown.
