Contemporary Christian, country fill Canfield grandstand

The music lineup for this year’s Canfield Fair will range from a Dove Award winning contemporary Christian artist to a country star who sings about never smoking “weed with Willie” again.

Matthew West has more than 130 songwriting credits, and his music has been recorded by such acts as Rascal Flatts, Scotty McCreery, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant and Mandisa. Casting Crowns and Danny Gokey have had number one singles with West’s songs.

He’s been even more successful singing his songs with such No. 1 hits as “Broken Things,” “Grace Wins,” “Hello My Name Is” and “The Motions.” West also has written five books, including “Give This Christmas Away,” “The Story of Your Life” and “Hello My Name Is.”

He will be joined Sunday by Hawk Nelson, a Canadian group that had a hit with “Words,” and I Am They, a five-piece pop acoustic Christian act.

Tickets for the 6 p.m. show range from $19 to $59.

Toby Keith will provide a raucous finale for the fair on Monday. He’s released 18 studio albums starting with his 1993 self-titled debut, as well as two Christmas releases and five compilation sets.

“Should’ve Been a Cowboy” from that 1993 debut was the first of Keith’s 20 No. 1 country hits, which also include “How Do You Like Me Now,” “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American),” “Beer for My Horses” (a duet with Willie Nelson), “I Love This Bar,” and “American Soldier.”

Keith also has found time to act, starring in the films “Beer for My Horses” and “Broken Bridges.”

Opening for Keith will be Craig Campbell, whose country hits include “Family Man” and “Keep Them Kisses Comin’.”

Tickets for the 7 p.m. show range from $42 to $92.
