Bumstead 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bumstead of Cortland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary via a surprise Zoom celebration with more than 50 family members and friends, hosted by their daughter, Tanya.

Kenneth Bumstead and the former Mary Roddy were married Dec. 20, 1970, in the Harbison Chapel on the campus of Grove City College. The Rev. Dudley Rose officiated.

The couple both graduated from GCC. Kenneth served as an MP for the U.S. Army, stationed at West Point. He then worked as a chemist for Copperweld Steel until the plant’s closing in 2001.

Mary retired in 2008 after 36 years of teaching, one year at Mercer East Elementary and 35 at Lakeview Elementary.

The couple have one daughter, Tanya (Christopher) Quinn, and one granddaughter, who reside in North Carolina.

Retirement has allowed the couple frequent visits to North Carolina, several trips in their RV, and the start of new hobbies such as geocaching, pickleball and bird watching.
