THINK PINK: Joanie’s Sisters, women in cancer treatment and recovery, is offering the “Think Pink Education Series.”

The next free program is 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. The program is “How to create a Healthy, Nutritional Lifestyle,” presented by Christina Owens, founder and director of Going Vegan.

NAMI OFFERS SUPPORT: National Alliance on Mental Illness Mahoning Valley offers support and education for individuals and families dealing with mental illness.

• Family To Family, for families dealing with a member who has mental illness, and Peer to Peer, for individuals dealing with mental illness, meet periodically;

• Connection support groups, 2:15 p.m. Thursdays, Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown;

• Connection support groups, 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of each month, Alta Care Building, 142 Javit Court, Austintown;

• Free Yoga, noon to 1 p.m. second Friday of each month, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown;

• Support through Expressive Arts, 6 pm. every third Monday, Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown;

• Daytime Family Support Group meets at 11 a.m. the first Thursday of the month, Girard Library, 105 Prospect St., Girard;

• Evening Family Support Group meets at 6 p.m. second Tuesday of each month, Alta Care Building, 142 Javit Court, Austintown.

OSTOMY SUPPORT: The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group will meet 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 12 and Dec. 14 at the Woodland Room at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, 8401 Market St., Boardman. It will meet 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Tibbets Wick homecare office, 979 Tibbets Wick Road, Suite A, Girard.

The group offers education, encouragement and support to anyone whose life is affected by an ostomy. Light refreshments will be served.

MAMMOGRAMS GO MOBILE: The Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center Mobile Mammography Unit is traveling around northeast Ohio throughout the month of September. The state-of-the-art mobile unit uses the same high-quality technology and equipment to perform the mammogram that can be found at the center.

Mammograms are usually a covered benefit with most insurance carriers. Financial assistance for mobile screenings is also available. The patient’s physician will receive a copy of the results.

ST. JOE’S AT THE MALL: St. Joe’s at Eastwood Mall, located next to JCPenney, is open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. All classes are open to anyone with a St. Joe’s at the Mall membership. Screenings and programs are open to the public. Some classes are by registration only due to social distancing guidelines. St. Joe’s at the Mall is a SilverSneakers, Silver and Fit, and Renew Active site. For more information or to make an appointment, call 330-652-7542.

Strong People Gym membership is $24 monthly, with appointment initially with exercise physiologist.

Weekly exercise classes include Cardio Jam, SilverSneaker Classic and Cardio, Cardio Jam, Cardio Combo, Zumba, chair yoga, floor yoga, beginning and advanced balance classes, 60-up balance class, and Parkinson’s and movement disorder exercise classes.

The schedule includes:

∫ Free blood pressure screenings, 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays;

∫ Free nutritional assessment with a dietitian on Fridays by appointment only.

WELLNESS CENTER PROGRAMS: The Niles Wellness Center is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. To register for any program or for more information, call the center at 330-349-9355 or email Chelsey Christie at cchristie@thecityofniles.com.

The center is a family membership facility and welcomes all SilverSneakers, Silver and Fit, and Renew Active participants. Also offered is a fully equipped weight room, four-lane indoor track, basketball court and a soccer field.

Through a partnership with Mercy Health and its Stepping Out Program, the center offers the following classes:

∫ Zumba, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays;

∫ Line dancing, 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays;

∫ SilverSneakers endurance class, 10 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;

∫ Pickleball, 7 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday.
