Master Gardener volunteers
What: OSU Extension is accepting applications for the Master Gardener Volunteer program for 2022. Training starts Feb. 1 in Canfield. The program provides intensive training in horticulture who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities. Volunteers are not required to have gardening skills or knowledge.

Volunteer naturalist training
What: OSU Extension is accepting applications for the Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist program. This certificate program provides intensive, nature-focused training. Applicants to the program should be willing to share their passion for the natural world and to promote environmental stewardship while giving back through community service at any volunteer site of their choosing. OCVNs provide educational services to their communities by volunteering at local parks and nature centers.

Who-who’s who of Ohio’s owls
When: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday
What: Marne Titchenell, OSU Extension’s Wildlife Program specialist explores the lives of Ohio’s owls. Learn how to ID Ohio owls by sight and by their calls, how owls use unique abilities in their lives, and what they need in terms of habitat.

Greenhouse production
When: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday
What: Join experts from Ohio State University to learn about production in greenhouses, including controlled environment management and hydroponics. Pesticide credits will be available.

Pond management
When: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10
What: Pete Conkle and Blaine Winger from the local Soil and Water Conservation District will discuss best pond management, how to set up ponds and aquatic life for a successful future, and where to find the best resources.

The Return of river otters
When: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11
What: The return of river otters to Ohio is one of the state’s great conservation success stories. This presentation will outline the reintroduction efforts that kickstarted this return, and the recovery that otters have made throughout the state in the 30 years since. The speaker will be Katie Dennison, wildlife biologist, Ohio Division of Wildlife
