RETIREES TO MEET: St. Joseph Warren Hospital Retirees will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Wayside Restaurant in Champion. Retired and former employees from St. Joseph or Warren General Hospital are welcome to attend. Attendees are requested to bring nonperishable items for a food bank donation.

MEDICARE CHANGES: Each year between Oct. 15 and Dec. 7, older adults are afforded the opportunity to decide their Medicare coverage. Medicare Advantage managed-care plans and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans are available for everyone covered by Medicare, the federal health insurance program for people 65 or older and some younger disabled Americans.

Changes are effective Jan. 1.

Consumers can choose to include prescription drug-coverage in Medicare Advantage plans or may want a separate Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to use with original Medicare or a Medicare supplemental plan, also called a Medigap plan. The Medicare Part D drug plans are offered statewide; the Medicare Advantage plans vary by county.

Plans change each year so having a Medicare Check Up is the key to ensuring you have the most cost-effective plan that covers all your needs.

Staff at Direction Home of Eastern Ohio (DHEO) can help you navigate the process. DHEO offers free telephonic or video-based Medicare Check Ups. OSHIIP certified staff will assist you by reviewing your current medications, doctors, and pharmacies and offering a comparison on plans that will provide you coverage. Direction Home staff do not sell insurance and only provide unbiased information to you. Ultimately, the decision is yours on which plan you pick.

Those interested in having a free Medicare Check Up or who have questions regarding Medicare Savings Programs like Extra Help, can contact Direction Home of Eastern Ohio at 330-505-2300 or 1-800-686-7367.
