THE GIRARD MULTI-GENERATIONAL CENTER: The Girard Multi-Generational Center, 433 Trumbull Ave., Girard, is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Offered are stretching classes, a coffee and snack bar, puzzles, mind games, computer cafe, newspapers and fitness center. Yoga / pilates is offered; call for class times.

A tai chi class is offered noon to 1 p.m. Fridays for $5

• Nutrition Meal Program, 1:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, from Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs. Reservations must be made at least two days in advance.

• Medicare open enrollment starts today. Call to schedule an appointment with Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program counselor Christine.

• Walk with Ease classes will be offered 10:30 a.m. to noon on Monday through Dec. 1. The Arthritis Foundation six-week structured class meets three times weekly. Walking is the central activity but also includes health education information, stretching and strengthening exercises and motivational tips and tools. No classes will be held Oct. 29 and Nov. 26.

• Oct. 20, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Windsor House will have bingo in the dining hall.

CARD PLAYERS NEEDED: SCOPE’s Warren Area Senior Center, 375 N. Park Ave., is looking for Trumbull County seniors interested in playing bridge on Tuesday mornings. Players of all levels are welcome.

A knitting / crocheting group is also being organized at the center. Free lessons will be available. Participants are welcome to bring current projects. Call 330-399-8846.

NUTRITION SITES AVAILABLE: The Trumbull County Nutrition Program for the Elderly is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at seven locations in the county. Meals will be delivered to county residents 60 and older who are homebound, unable to cook for themselves and not living with someone who can cook for them. Client donations are accepted. The menu is:

• Today — Double burger patty, baked beans, peas, sandwich bun, fresh orange and pudding;

• Monday — Hawaiian pork chop, rice pilaf, island vegetables, sweet-and-sour coleslaw, wheat bread, Mandarin oranges and cookie;

• Tuesday — Hot turkey sandwich with gravy, sliced turkey with gravy, whipped potatoes, corn, wheat bread and peaches;

• Wednesday — Red chili with beef and beans, carrots, side salad with Italian dressing, dinner roll, warm cinnamon pears and mini muffin;

• Thursday — Chicken divan, parsley buttered potatoes, mixed vegetables, wheat bread, fresh apple and pudding;

• Oct. 22 — Swiss steak with onion gravy, buttered egg noodles, Brussels sprouts, wheat bread, mixed fruit and ice cream.

WATER BOTTLE FITNESS: SCOPE Senior Services offers a free Water Bottle Fitness class with Jim Marlowe 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays at the YWCA building, 375 North Park Ave., Warren. The free sessions work on balance, fall protection and safety at home. It’s for beginners and designed for those who should exercise. It is adaptive for all ages, including those with physical issues. Call 330-399-8846 for more details and to reserve a spot.

SENIOR RIDES: Applications to use the senior rides services are available by calling Diane Siskowic-Jurkovic, Trumbull County senior levy administrator, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at 330-675-7846, by emailing her at SLJurkov@co.trumbull.oh.us, or online at http://seniorlevyser vice.co.trumbull.oh.us. They also can be picked up at Trumbull County SCOPE Centers in Warren, Howland, Champion, Cortland, Lordstown and Niles.

For rides, seniors can call:

• Comfort Care-A-Van, 330-744-4145, for wheelchair trips or any other trip over 10 miles;

• All American USA Taxi, 330-395-3226, for nonwheelchair rides 10 miles or less;

• Country Neighbor, 440-437-6311, for any trip originating in the northern tier of the county;

• Garwin Inc., 330-534-1335, for nonwheelchair rides 10 miles or less.

CORTLAND SENIOR CENTER: The Cortland Area Senior Citizen Center, located at Cortland Christian Church, 153 Grove Drive, is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with activities such as cards, fitness, board games, puzzles, coloring, arts and crafts, and walking, along with free coffee for visitors.

Lunches are served around noon. Make a reservation three days in advance by calling 330-509-2415 or by stopping by the center. Cost is $3 for those 60 and older and $6 for people younger than 60. No no carryouts are available.

JOHNSTON CENTER: The Johnston Senior Center, 5922 state Route 5 in Johnston is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. To reserve a lunch, call two business days in advance 330-924-0412 or 330-675-2486. Cost is $2.25 for Trumbull County residents 60 and older and / or their spouse.

Classes include yoga, dance and flexibility, and a variety of others, all which can be modified to meet seniors at their level of capability. Bingo is held weekly. Stop in or call 330-924-0412 to reserve a spot. Chair massages by appointment start at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays for $1 a minute from Living Wellness Holistic.

The center and the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs have resumed the congregate lunch program and include the “grab-n-go” lunch.

FARMINGTON SENIOR CENTER: 150 College St., Farmington, is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to noon Mondays. Call 330-889-2733. Lunches featuring home cooking for $3 for 60 and older and $5 for younger than 60. The lunch menu is posted on the center’s Facebook page.

• Grief Share with Pastor Shirley Frantz and Vickie Harkelrode has been canceled until further notice.

• Mondays: Monday Morning Breakfast, full menu, 7 a.m.

• Wednesday: 10 a.m., chair yoga with Versa; TOPS meeting, 6:30 p.m., with weigh-in at 6 p.m.

• Thursday: 1 p.m., Book Worms book club (fourth Thursday).

Direction Home will be holding a six week long course on improving your balance. This will start in November.

WARREN SCOPE OFFERS PROGRAMS: The Warren SCOPE Center, 375 N. Park Ave., offers an indoor walking fitness area 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.

The indoor facility provides music thanks to the HChoice health program through its isolation and loneliness initiative. SCOPE provides an incentive of gift cards for seniors who walk 50 miles.

The Center offers a SilverSneakers FLEX fitness session 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays. The SilverSneakers FLEX stretch class is offered at noon on Tuesdays.

Senior citizens who are Medicare-eligible can take classes for free. Non-SilverSneakers members pay $2 per class. For more information or to register for classes or lunch, call 330-399-8846.

FALLS CENTER OFFERS LUNCH: SCOPE relocated a senior center to the recently purchased Newton Falls Village Building, 612 W. Broad St., where hot lunches are offered to senior citizens.

To eat, people need to call the center two days in advance at 330-306-9577. There is no charge for the meals but participants are asked to provide a donation. Meals are served noon Monday to Friday. Due to limits on indoor seating, reserved meals may also be packaged up for carryout.

The center is open for a wide variety of activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Masking and social distancing rules are followed.

FOOD DELIVERY: Direction Home of Eastern Ohio is partnering with various agencies for Families First Coronavirus Response Act funding for no-contact food deliveries to seniors 60 and older:

Trumbull — Trumbull Office of Elderly Affairs, 330-675-2486;

MEMORY SCREENINGS VIRTUAL: The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is offering a free virtual memory screening. Appointments can be scheduled by calling AFA at 866-232-8484 or by visiting www.alzfdn.org. Screenings are conducted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday through secure videoconference. There are no minimum age or insurance prerequisites.

VOLUNTEER PACKERS / DRIVERS NEEDED: Trumbull Mobile Meals delivers meals five days a week to Trumbull County residents who are homebound. The agency needs volunteer packers and volunteer drivers.

Volunteer cold packers help pack cold meals, 8:15 to 11 a.m., and volunteer hot packers pack meals from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Drivers deliver between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Anyone who can spare an hour or two once a week or even just once a month is invited to help.

OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM: Direction Home of Eastern Ohio is looking for volunteers to join the Ombudsman Program to advocate for excellence for those living in long-term care facilities.

Ombudsman help ensure that residents of long-term care facilities receive quality care and treatment. Volunteers will make phone calls and virtual visits to residents.

SCSEP OFFERS TRAINING: SCOPE Senior Service Centers have been providing host job sites along with other nonprofits in the area for the Vantage Aging Senior Community Service Employment Program. This program offers paid job training and placement to low-income adults 55 and older.

Besides age, requirements are to be unemployed and looking for training for a job. For additional information or to receive an application, call Vantage Aging at 330-782-0978 or SCOPE Senior Services at 330-399-8846.

The SCSEP is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Ohio Department of Aging.

SCOPE PARTNERS WITH H-CHOICES: SCOPE Senior Services is partnering with Steve Pelton of HChoices’s with online programming for senior citizens. The We Thrive Together social isolation and loneliness initiative have been providing online educational and health classes during the COVID-19 crisis to senior citizens in the Mahoning Valley.

FALL PREVENTION GUIDE: The Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS joined with the Ohio Injury Prevention Partnership and released an updated “Elderly Fall Prevention Resource Guide” for EMS providers and the general public.

ALZHEIMER HELP ONLINE: The Alzheimer’s Association’s online Community Resource Finder at alz.org/crf provides ZIP code area-specific information on topics such as care at home, community services and housing options.

The Alzheimer’s Association offers numerous caregiver support groups virtually. A number of dial-in telephone support groups have been added for additional support.

SENIOR VOLUNTEERS: The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Mahoning Valley is looking for volunteers. For information, contact Leah at 330-480-0352, Ext. 3.

RSVP is a national service program for individuals 55 and older who want to volunteer in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. These volunteers will also assist with community events.

The Senior Support Action Group is a coalition of community partners working together to assist the seniors in the Valley with access to food, transportation to medical appointments and companionship through the Phone Pals program.

911 SPECIAL NEEDS REGISTRY: To be placed on the Trumbull County 911 Special Needs Registry Program to alert first responders in case of emergency, fill out forms at the Trumbull County Commissioners Office, the Trumbull County Recorder’s Office, all Trumbull County SCOPE centers or on the county 911 website at www.trumbull911.co.trumbull.oh.us under the “Special Needs” tab.
